On 8 October 2026, the Davis Islands were established as a ceremonial micronation centred on the two rocky islets historically known as the Chimney Sweeps Islands, in the waters off Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx.

The project draws on British maritime tradition and the style of the small British Overseas Territories, while celebrating the Bronx's own maritime heritage and the coastal wildlife of Pelham Bay. The two islets carry the ceremonial names Grand Davis Island and Little Davis Island.

The national motto is Mari · Urbe · Libertas — By Sea · By City · By Liberty.

Matthew J. serves as Honorary Governor-General. As with every office of the Davis Islands, the role is purely honorary.

A note on status

The Davis Islands is an unofficial cultural and ceremonial project. The islands remain public parkland within New York City. The project does not claim sovereignty or ownership, and it is not recognised by, or affiliated with, the British Crown, any government or NYC Parks.
